How much alcohol is in port?

Most types of port have between 19-22% alcohol.

Why is port sweet?

When the wine is fermented, sugar is turned to alcohol. When you make port, the fermentation is stopped before all the sugar is turned to alcohol, and that way you achieve a sweet wine.
